The Grand Bazaar is truly a grand bazaar, and captures the spirit of Istanbul. My favorite pitch from vendors is "How can I help you spend you money." The Turks we met were very kind.
Looking towards the Asian side of the Bosphorus on a sunny day cruise. Istanbul was very laid back when we visted in 2013.
Our hotel was not far from the Galata Bridge, which is a fun spot to walk and just chill and people watch.
Our M.O. is to take a bus tour (and/or cruise in this case) to learn how to get around. Then hit the streets anf discover whatever happens.
People were, when we visited, proud of their country, "mind your own business" about religion with Drews, Jews, Cristians and Muslims all living amongst each other so far as I could see.
It doesn't get talked about for a number of reason I could imagine, but the turkish cuisine is OFF. VEE. HOOK delish!!!
I'd see pics of the atrium of shops in the trendy Istiklal Caddesi shopping district, and had to check it out.
The 700 year old Galata Tower affords great views of the city.
A rainy afternoon view of the Galata River (Golder Horn), and the Gelata bridge from the tower. Rain, no problem: shop and eat 'til it clears!
